Martial Arts and Karate Classes in Slough
Slough Martial Arts Classes
Sessions cover techniques drawn from multiple martial arts disciplines: karate, boxing, wrestling, Krav Maga, kung fu, judo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), kickboxing, and Muay Thai. Rather than running separate classes for each style, our instructors blend the most effective techniques from each discipline into one practical, well-rounded training programme. This means you develop striking, grappling, and real-world self-defence skills all within the same class.
A typical one-hour session begins with a warm-up & stretching, moves into technique drills and partner work, and has pad work, sparring and self defence drills. Our instructors adjust the intensity and complexity to suit each student, so complete beginners train comfortably alongside more experienced practitioners. You do not need any prior experience to join.
The physical benefits of regular training include improved strength, cardiovascular fitness, flexibility, and coordination. Beyond the physical side, our students report gains in confidence, focus, discipline, and mental resilience. For children, these qualities carry over into school and social life. For adults, many find that training provides a focused, screen-free outlet that reduces stress and builds self-assurance.
Our Slough venue is easily accessible from Langley, Wexham, Colnbrook, Chalvey, and Farnham Royal, with free parking available on site.

Frequently Asked Questions
What age do I need to be to start training?
Our Slough classes are open to children from age 7, teenagers, and adults. There is no upper age limit. Families are welcome to train together in the same session, which is something many of our Slough students particularly enjoy.
Are the classes suitable for complete beginners?
Yes. Most of our students started with zero martial arts experience. Our instructors tailor each session so beginners and experienced students can train side by side, and everyone progresses at their own pace. Read our beginner's guide to your first class for more on what to expect.
How long is each class?
Each class runs for one hour. Sessions include warm-up & stretching, technique practice, partner drills, pad work and sparring. The pace is adjusted to suit all experience levels.
What do I need to wear?
Comfortable gym clothes are fine for your first few sessions. Once you decide to continue, you can pick up a Shuhari uniform (gi) at the dojo. No special equipment is needed to get started.
Do you offer a free trial class?
Yes. You can book a free trial class at our Slough venue to see if Shuhari is right for you. Just get in touch by phone (07739 464 005) or email (info@shuhari.com) to arrange a session.
Does the venue have parking?
Yes. The Ramgarhia Educational & Cultural Centre has a car park with plenty of free parking for visitors.
What martial arts styles do you teach?
Classes cover techniques from many disciplines: karate, boxing, wrestling, Krav Maga, kung fu, judo, BJJ, kickboxing, and Muay Thai. Rather than offering separate classes for each style, we integrate them into one practical self-defence programme. You can read more about each style in our types of martial arts guide.
What is the best martial art for self defence?
The most effective approach combines striking techniques (punches, kicks, knees, elbows) with vertical and ground grappling (throws, take downs, sweeps, ground control). Training that pressure-tests these skills against a resisting partner is essential. At Shuhari, training covers pragmatic techniques, giving you a well-rounded skill set for real-world situations. Read our in-depth self-defence comparison for more detail.
Can parents watch or join in?
Both. Parents are welcome to watch. Even better, many parents choose to train alongside their children in the same class. It's a great way to stay active as a family.
